Electric Bill Assistance

The City of Colton Electric Utility offers a Low Income Assistance Program for income-qualified customers. The program will assist customers with adding additional kilowatt hours to the first-tier level charges.

To qualify, customers must meet the income levels listed below based on the number of occupants living in the household: (revised income levels as of July 1, 2023.)

Qualified customers will be provided a Tier 1 allotment increase of 139 kWh. This brings the tier from 250 kWh to 389 kWh each month for 12 consecutive months from the date of approval.

Customers must show proof of income for everyone in the household over 18 years of age. If an individual in the household does not have proof of income, please submit verification from the Social Security office stating no income for that individual. If there is a student over the age of 18 without income, you must submit proof of current registration (i.e., class schedule, BOG waiver, or current transcripts). Qualification is based on the combined gross annual income for all members in the household over 18 years old.

How to Apply

To apply for the program, please complete the Residential Low Income Assistance Program application (PDF) and submit it with proof of income. You can print the application from the website or pick one up at the Information Desk at City Hall.

A utility representative is available at the Assistance Desk in City Hall at the following hours: Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 5 pm (closed for lunch from Noon to 1 pm).
