Notice of Solid Waste Rate Increase

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Colton City Council will hold a public hearing on or after 6:00 PM on December 20, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter, in the City of Colton Council Chambers - 650 N. La Cadena Drive, Colton, CA 92324, to consider adopting increases to the rates for the collection and handling of trash, recycling, and organic waste services within the City (collectively, “Solid Waste Services”).  Said public hearing will be held to consider all oral testimony and written protests to, and the adoption of the proposed rate increases.  If the Colton City Council decides to conduct the hearing remotely in the interest of public health and safety pursuant to Assembly Bill (AB) 361 (Chapter 165, Statutes of 2021), information will be posted on the City’s website as soon as possible, and will also be included in the published agenda for the December 20, 2022 Colton City Council meeting.

Free Mattress Disposal

The City of Colton waste hauler CR&R has joined the Mattress Recycling Council’s Bye Bye Mattress program collection as a site participant. Residents can now bring an unlimited amount of mattress to the City’s Disposal site located at 2059 E Steel Rd. CR&R will accept old mattresses and box springs from Colton Residents for free.

A mattress recycled through the Bye Bye Mattress program is broken up into four main components – steel, foam, fibers and wood. These components are used to make hundreds of new products such as carpet padding, construction rebar, insulation, filters and mulch.

Free Carpet Disposal

CR&R now offers carpet and padding disposal at 2059 E. Steel Road (Monday-Friday 8am-4pm). No charge for Colton residents for the first two rolls with proof of ID. Colton businesses will receive a reduced rate. For more information, click here

Community Dump Days

Community dump days are offered twice a year as a drive by event for residential customers only

Dates: 2nd Saturday in April and October (subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances. Details available via social media, channel 3 or utility bill)

Time: 8 am to 12 noon

Location: Gonzales Community Center located at 670 Colton Ave, Colton, CA 92324

**No tires, construction or household hazardous waste accepted.

Mandatory Commercial Recycling (AB341)

With the passage of Assembly Bill 341, businesses and public entities that generate four cubic yards or more of waste per week and multifamily complexes with five or more units are required to recycle.

Please contact the City of Colton Recycling Coordinator at 909-264-2321 for more information to get your business into compliance with AB 341.

Mandatory Commercial Organic Recycling (AB 1826)

On or after April 1, 2016, a business that generates eight cubic yards or more of organic waste must recycle that material. This will decrease to four cubic yards of organic waste in 2017. In 2019 all businesses with 4 or more yards of solid waste per week will be required to participate in organic waste recycling.

California law (SB 1383, Lara, Chapter 395, Statutes of 2016) targets a 50 percent reduction in the landfilling of organic waste in 2022. If you are a commercial business producing organic waste in search of donation locations, please click here.
